Healthy life : Peppermint Oil Guide

Healthy Life : Peppermint oil is derived from the M.Balsamea, or otherwise known as the peppermint plant. Like all essential oils, distillation is required to harvest these liquids. M.Balsamea is a naturally occurring hybrid plant between the Spearmint and the Watermint plant. Originally though to be a distinct species when it was first found in the eighteen hundreds, further tests pointed it out be an actual hybrid. While they were originally found only in Europe, it has been introduced to many regions throughout the world as it has become a major cash crop. It is somewhat of a short plant with a maximum height of about twenty nine inches. It reproduces via vegetative reproduction as most peppermint plants in the wild are sterile.

Vegetative reproduction is a form of asexual reproduction that is available to some plants. They are almost always found in areas with an abundance of water. As such, they are normally found along the sides of rivers and even drains. They can also be classified as a weed as they are very durable plants that reproduce very quickly in the wild. It is rich in vitamins A, B and C along with a few essential minerals such as Iron and Magnesium. Traditionally, it was harvested for medicinal purposes but it has since emerged in many other industries such as the cosmetics and health care industries. Because peppermint oil has a high amount of menthol, breathing in the scent can promote focus and help in memory functions. Some students use the scent during exam preparations because of this.

Change the-behavior of-brain cancer

Healthy Life : For most of us, today will begin like any other day. We'll sip our coffee, skim the morning paper, drop the kids off at school, and perform the normal rituals that make up our daily lives. The good, the bad, and yes, even the somewhat ugly; we'll tackle it all with confidence and a sense of comfort, knowing that tomorrow, as routine as it may be, we'll get to do it all over again.
But, for several families across America, today will be different. Today will be life-changing.
Today...
• Nine families will learn their child has a brain or spinal cord tumor;
• Three families will mourn the loss of their child to this dreadful disease; and
• Six families will transition to survivorship.

Different methods for-the treatment-of-autism

Healthy Life : Autism is a complex developmental disorder that has no cure. Though children are not cured from autism, early intervention and treatment allows those with autism to develop, learn and interact with others. Parents have several care options available to help them through the challenge of raising a child with autism.

Behaviour Modification:

Healthy life : Tinnitus, Insulin, and Diabetes

Healthy life : Traditional scientists have demonstrated that insulin levels and sugar metabolism play a significant role in producing tinnitus. Whether insulin levels relate to EH has not been shown, but is a strong possibility. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that approximately 90% of patients with tinnitus have a condition called hyperinsulinemia. This term simply means a higher-than-normal level of insulin in the bloodstream.

Hyperinsulinemia occurs when, at a cellular level, insulin becomes inefficient at transferring glucose from the bloodstream into the body's cells. The condition is known as insulin resistance. Should this occur, the pancreas produces additional insulin to accomplish the task. People who develop insulin resistance typically have consumed excessive amounts of carbohydrates (sugars) for many years. They have stressed the normal insulin/glucose transfer mechanism to the point that resistance develops. It's as though the overworked system has become fatigued and worn out. In time, the pancreas cannot keep up increased production, and the result is clinical diabetes. This is adult-onset Type II Diabetes.

The advantage of white tea

Healthy Life:Compared with green tea, white tea usually contains more nutrients and antioxidants. Just because of these abundant nutrients and antioxidants, white tea can effectively help people maintain the body health. Generally speaking, this kind of tea has six advantages for people to make full use of.
NOW Foods Tea Tree Oil, 1-Ounce
First, white tea can help people decrease blood pressure. The antioxidants can effectively thin blood, lower blood pressure and decrease the risks of getting heart disease.

Second, the tea can effectively prevent the formation of cancer. The antioxidants like polyphenols can kill the free radicals in human body and protect the cells. Free radicals can cause a series of harmful reactions in human body. After they are killed by antioxidants, the harmful reactions can be stopped, which can resist the formation of cancers, such as colon cancer and prostatic cancer.

Third, the tea can decrease cholesterol for human body. The antioxidants like catechins play an important role in decreasing cholesterol. At the same time, they can enhance the human immunity to arteriosclerosis.

Fourth, the tea has unique functions of resisting bacteria and viruses. The antiviral function and antibacterial function can effectively help people enhance the immunity to various diseases and maintain the body health.

Doctors explain the secret properties of the cosmetic treatment can also treat people suffering from vaginal spasms.

A successful clinical trial performed by the FDA has given Botox the green light to treat women who suffer from a mental block when having sex. The mental block is so severe that the vaginal muscles begin to contract making sex difficult if not impossible. The mental block comes from serious trauma the patient suffered in their life. Most likely from sexual assault or molestation, which is strongly linked with these victims.

Did you eat according to your genes

Everyone has their own idea of how to eat. Some people just don't care and will consume as much junk food, genetically modified food, and processed food as the supermarkets offer. Although they may not want to expand their choices, this article will also benefit them for when that moment of change arrives.

To step outside the system takes courage; it means that you want to be yourself, you want to love that "inner you" whatever the consequences. What I've noticed is that the consequences are beyond what we could imagine, because the aura of the true self is far more attractive than the aura of someone who is living through their socially conditioned behaviour patterns.

So for those of you who are awake and interested you may like to know that our eating patterns are very individual and just because your friend wants you to eat only "raw food, vegan or vegetarian" doesn't mean that you have to do the same, especially if it doesn't feel right for you. Most of us have no idea what our personal genetic diet is because we have become so homogenised that we prefer to stay with what is familiar to us even though it may not be healthy. Remember that wonderful moment in the film 'Shirley Valentine' when her husband is upset because his tea isn't ready at exactly 6 o'clock?

3 More So-Called Superfoods to Avoid

So you’ve learned that you don’t need goji berries, spirulina, or hemp powder to thrive on a raw food diet.
Unfortunately, these products aren’t the only so-called “superfoods” promoted within the mainstream raw food movement.
Here are 3 more not-so-superfoods you shouldn’t waste your money on:
#1: Raw Cacao
Raw cacao consists of cacao beans (the seeds of the cacao fruit) that have been processed under 118 degrees F. It’s often sold in powder form, in pieces called “nibs, as cacao butter (the extracted oil from the cacao bean), or in chocolate bars.
Cost
• Powder: $13-27 per 16 ounces
• Nibs: $14-25 per 16 ounces
• Butter: $15-25 per 16 ounces
• Bars: $6-12 per bar
What (Supposedly) Makes It So Super?
• good source of magnesium
• lots of antioxidants
• gives you energy
Why You Shouldn’t Buy It
Raw cacao as a source of magnesium isn’t too special. Plenty of fruits and vegetables contain this mineral.
For instance, one pound of bananas (only 400 calories) contains 122.5 mg of magnesium. According to the FDA, that’s about 40% of the daily amount required for the average adult female (310 mg).
Antioxidants? A raw food diet is full of ‘em. Just get in enough fruits, greens, nuts and seeds and you will get TONS of antioxidants.

What sea salt is healthy?

“Why You Should Never Eat Salt”
The main concern seems to be:
What about sea salt? Doesn’t it contain less sodium and more trace minerals, making it a healthier alternative to regular table salt?
Let’s have a look:
Sea Salt Contains Less Sodium Chloride
This may be true for some sea salt brands, but not for the majority of them.
Most sea salts actually do not contain any less sodium chloride than regular table salt, which contains around 99% NaCl!
Himalayan salt, while not evaporated from seawater, is another heavily-marketed “healthy” salt. And yet even Himalayan salt contains about 98% (perhaps as low as 95%) sodium chloride.
Celtic sea salt contains the lowest amount at around 84% sodium chloride.
The bottom line? All extracted sodium chloride, including sea salt, is comprised of mostly sodium chloride.
Sea Salt is Full of Trace Minerals
It’s true that sea salt does contain trace minerals while table salt does not. But what’s most important here is quantity.

Eat Beans on a Raw Food Diet ?

Beans and other legumes are usually viewed as a “good for you” food.
Kidney beans, black beans pinto beans, lima beans, lentils, chickpeas, split peas, black-eyed peas and other legumes are praised for being good sources of protein, low in fat and calories, and cholesterol-free.
But…all of these foods are eaten cooked, usually baked or boiled.
So then what about RAW beans? Can they be consumed when raw? Should they be?

Beans, Beans, The Musical Fruit

There are many versions of this schoolyard rhyme, but here’s the one I remember…
Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So eat your beans with every meal!
Poetry. Sheer poetry!
In all seriousness, this silly song speaks the toot…I mean, truth.
Back when I ate a cooked vegan diet high in grains and legumes (hummus and falafel were two of my favorite snacks), I was pootin’ and tootin’ up a storm. And it definitely wasn’t music to my ears nor did it smell like roses.

Popular superfoods just spending money

Yep, that’s right. Some so-called “superfoods” marketed to raw foodists are not so super at all. In fact, MOST raw superfoods are a complete waste of your money!
For today, let’s stick with a few of the more popular products: spirulina, hemp protein powder, and goji berries.
Hopefully you haven’t been sucked into buying these superfoods due to hype marketing and well-written sales pages.
Sorry to rub it in if you have, but the following information is for your own good.

#1: Spirulina
Spirulina is a blue-green algae typically sold in powder form and very popular within the raw food movement.
Cost
$30-40 per pound
What (Supposedly) Makes It So Super?
• nutrient-dense
• provides all of the essential amino acids
• good source of vitamin B12
Why You Shouldn’t Buy It
Spirulina is nutrient-rich? Perhaps, but it really doesn’t matter because the recommended dose of 6-10 grams per day is tiny.
At the high end, 10 grams of spirulina contains only 2.6 mcg of vitamin K, 9.4 mcg of folate, 12 mg of calcium, and 19.5 mg of magnesium.

Healthy Life: Fresh Fruits and Greens

Spirulina, bee pollen, and hemp protein powder are just some of the “superfoods” heavily marketed to raw foodists and other health conscious folk.
These foods are promoted for their superior nutritional content, being good sources of various vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidant and protein-rich.
But as I show here, these products are not so super at all. In fact, the REAL raw superfoods are plain and boring fresh fruits, greens, nuts and seeds.

Don’t believe me? Check it out:
SIDE NOTE: The following percentages given are based on the Percent Daily Values (%DV) for a 2,000 calorie diet.

Vitamins

Fruits are known for being an excellent source of vitamins, including vitamins A, B6, C, E, and K and folate.
For instance, just 3 medium mangoes (605 calories) contains 10,907 IU of vitamin A (218% DV), 1.2 mg of vitamin B6 (60% DV), 366.9 mg of vitamin C (611% DV), 9.07 mg of vitamin E (30% DV), 42.3 mcg of vitamin K (52% DV), and 433 mcg of folate (108% DV).

Hepatitis-C infection of-the-biggest causes of-death

Although liver-related mortality among those infected with hepatitis C is well-documented, little is known about deaths in these patients that are not related to liver problems. A new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases and now available online sought to determine mortality from all causes, including liver- and non-liver related deaths among hepatitis C patients in the general U.S. population. The analysis found mortality from all causes to be higher in these patients.

An estimated 4 million adults in the U.S. tested positive for hepatitis C, according to the Third National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey, a large, nationally representative survey, conducted from 1988 to 1994. During a follow-up period of almost 15 years, 614 deaths occurred among 9,378 adults assessed in this study.

Identify Foods to Avoid With Gout

Gout is one of the types of arthritis which is most often caused by the increase in the urea content of the human body. Whenever the urea content increases in the human body there is a chance of crystal formation in the joints present in our body. This results in pain and swelling in the joints. Foods which have high amount of purines and proteins are the main reason for the problem of gout. Uric acid gets generated when the break down process of purines are done during metabolism. The foods that you take are directly responsible for the rheumatic disease like gout. So a balanced diet will help us free from gout. But if you already have a problem then you must be very careful about your food intake. There are many foods which cause gout and those kinds of foods should be avoided to lead a non-problematic life.

Go Green, The Raw Food Way!

I’ve received a handful of emails lately concerned with the amount of sweetness on a low fat, high fruit raw vegan diet. As expected, several of you aren’t quite used to the sweetness of so much fruit
To solve the problem, many beginner raw foodists substitute savory greens and/or nuts, seeds and avocado for sweet fruit.
Big Mistake.
There are 2 problems with this approach:
1. Greens and vegetables have few calories
2. Nuts, seeds, and avocado are high-fat foods
In terms of greens, these foods are simply too low in calories. Even a large salad of 8 ounces of romaine, one large cucumber, a whole bell pepper, and two medium tomatoes is under 200 calories! The only way to increase the calories in this meal would be to add in fruit or fat.
Which brings me to the second problem: fatty nuts, seeds, and avocado. Contrary to what people (raw and cooked foodists alike) like to believe, nuts are NOT a high protein food. Take an ounce of walnuts (14 halves), for instance. With only 9% of calories from protein and whopping 83% from fat, it becomes clear that nuts and seeds are really a high FAT food.
Avocados are in the same boat, with 4% protein and 77% fat.
SIDE NOTE: I’m referring to the Hass avocado here. There are avocados with lower percentages of fat, such as some Florida varieties, but these are not as readily available.
While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this fact, it becomes a problem when these foods are substituted for fruit and eaten in mass quantities. While it is perfectibly acceptable to eat a pound (or two) of fruit in one sitting, this is a recipe for disaster in terms of fat.

Raw Peanuts: Avoid or Enjoy?

If you read this article of mine, then you know that legumes are not an optimal food for humans.

Kidney beans, chickpeas and the like are hard on digestion, full of lectins and other toxins, and unappetizing (and in many cases, indigestible) when raw.
But what about raw peanuts? Since these wannabe nuts are really legumes, should we avoid them?
Wait…Peanuts Aren’t Nuts?!
Nope, they aren’t.
While culinarily peanuts are used like a true nut because of their high fat content, they are botanically beans. It’s just like tomatoes and cucumber, which are culinarily used like vegetables because of their lower sugar content, but are botanically fruits.

Begin dinner with as much fruit as you want

Healthy-lifestyle : Since last week’s lesson, you should now be eating only raw fruits and veggies for breakfast and lunch. That means at least 2/3 of your calories everyday come from raw foods.

Well done! That is a serious accomplishment for only two weeks. I am sure that you have noticed some awesome benefits and want to keep improving.

Well, that’s exactly what this next step is for! Instead of eating an all cooked dinner, you will start the meal with as much fruit as possible. After that, you can eat your regular cooked fare.

More fruit?

Yes, more fruit! Hey, you should be overjoyed that you get to eat so much food! What other diet plan lets you do that?

Sex,Coffee,Smog Can All Trigger Heart Attack

A major analysis of data on potential triggers for heart attacks finds that many of the substances and activities Americans indulge in every day -- coffee, alcohol, sex, even breathing -- can all help spur an attack.

Because so many people are exposed to dirty air, air pollution while stuck in traffic topped the list of potential heart attack triggers, with the researchers pegging 7.4% of heart attacks to roadway smog.

But coffee was also linked to 5% of attacks, booze to another 5%, and pot smoking to just under 1%, the European researchers found.

Among everyday activities, exerting yourself physically was linked to 6.2% of heart attacks, indulging in a heavy meal was estimated to trigger 2.7%, and sex was linked to 2.2%.

Double benefit from a combination of broccoli and broccoli sprouts

Study after study continues to show that eating broccoli helps to prevent and treat cancer. And a new study out of the University of Illinois (U of I) says that combining broccoli with broccoli sprouts nearly doubles the cruciferous vegetable's anti-cancer effects.

"Broccoli, prepared correctly, is an extremely potent cancer-fighting agent -- three to five servings a week are enough to have an effect," said Elizabeth Jeffery, a U of I professor of nutrition that worked on the study. "To get broccoli's benefits, though, the enzyme myrosinase has to be present; if it's not there, sulforaphane, broccoli's cancer-preventive and anti-inflammatory component, doesn't form."

Bad genes cause Alzheimer's replaced by omega-3

(Healthy Life)Scientists tend to describe their research and findings with facts and figures only, leaving out any emotion. But Prof. Daniel Michaelson of Tel Aviv University's Department of Neurobiology has uncovered something so potentially groundbreaking he called it "exhilarating" in a statement to the press.
What news could have this scientist so excited? A diet high in omega-3s, the fatty acids found in fatty fish like salmon as well as walnuts, appears to significant block the negative effects of the APOE4 gene -- the "bad" APOE gene found in 50% of all Alzheimer's patients and in about 15% of the population. Having the APOE4 gene greatly ups your risk of getting Alzheimer's disease, a dreaded and deadly form of dementia affecting about five million Americans.

Colostrum helps treat leaky gut syndrome

(Healthy Life)Heavy-training athletes, and runners in particular, often suffer from "leaky gut syndrome," a condition in which bowel health becomes damaged due to increased permeability of gut lining. But a new study published in the American Journal of Physiology - Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology has found a viable solution -- bovine colostrum.

Newborn heart muscle can grow back by itself

Healthy life "In a promising science-fiction-meets-real-world juxtaposition, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have discovered that the mammalian newborn heart can heal itself completely.
Researchers, working with mice, found that a portion of the heart removed during the first week after birth grew back wholly and correctly – as if nothing had happened.
"This is an important step in our search for a cure for heart disease, the No. 1 killer in the developed world," said Dr. Hesham Sadek, assistant professor of internal medicine and senior author of the study available online in the Feb. 25 issue of Science. "We found that the heart of newborn mammals can fix itself; it just forgets how as it gets older. The challenge now is to find a way to remind the adult heart how to fix itself again."

Hundreds of medical professionals arrested

[Healthy Life]"Representing the largest medical fraud case in history, federal authorities have arrested more than 100 doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other medical professionals for allegedly swindling hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal Medicare program. The violators, who were busted in nine different U.S. cities, are said to have fraudulently billed Medicare for sometimes millions of dollars for simple procedures, and even for procedures they never even performed.

Tinnitus (Ringing in the Ears and Other Ear Noise) next

How is tinnitus evaluated?

A medical history, physical examination, and a series of special tests can help determine precisely where the tinnitus is originating. It is helpful for the doctor to know if the tinnitus is constant, intermittent or pulsating (synchronous with the heart beat, referred to as pulsatile tinnitus), or is it associated with hearing loss or loss of balance (vertigo). All patients with persisting unexplained tinnitus need a hearing test (audiogram). Patterns of hearing loss may lead the doctor to the diagnosis.

Tracking disease from outer space

By watching colors change on photographs of the Earth's surface, scientists can figure out, months or even years ahead of time, when a disease might flare up and become a serious hazard.
Traditional methods for following the spread of disease are hard work, according to biologist Denise Dearing of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She studies hantavirus, an untreatable rodent-borne virus that has infected more than 560 people in the United States since it was discovered in 1993. It's fatal in about half the cases. To keep tabs on the disease, "we had been going out and surveying mouse populations," Dearing said. But catching the mice, testing their blood, and microchipping them for future reference was difficult and time-consuming.

Research a potential drug for brain diseases

Scientists who examined more than 10,000 chemical compounds during the last year in search of potential new drugs for a group of untreatable brain diseases, are reporting that one substance shows unusual promise. The early positive signs for so-called prion diseases come from research in laboratory mice and cell cultures, they say in a report in ACS' Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.

Tinnitus (Ringing in the Ears and Other Ear Noise)

"Healthy Life"
What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a ringing, swishing, or other type of noise that seems to originate in the ear or head. In many cases it is not a serious problem, but rather a nuisance that eventually resolves. Rarely, however, tinnitus can represent a serious health condition.

It is not a single disease, but a symptom of an underlying condition. Nearly 36 million Americans suffer from this disorder. In almost all cases, only the patient can hear the noise.

10 Reasons Why the Primal Diet is Wrong

Cellphone affect changes in brain activity

Researchers from the National Institutes of Health have found that less than an hour of cellphone use can speed up brain activity in the area closest to the phone antenna, raising new questions about the health effects of low levels of radiation emitted from cellphones.
“The study is important because it documents that the human brain is sensitive to the electromagnetic radiation that is emitted by cellphones,” Dr. Volkow said. “It also highlights the importance of doing studies to address the question of whether there are — or are not — long-lasting consequences of repeated stimulation, of getting exposed over five, 10 or 15 years.”
The researchers, led by Dr. Nora D. Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, urged caution in interpreting the findings because it is not known whether the changes, which were seen in brain scans, have any meaningful effect on a person’s overall health.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Research is trying to determine whether Alzheimer’s disease might be slowed or prevented with nutritional approaches, but a new study suggests those efforts could be improved by use of nutrient “biomarkers” to objectively assess the nutrient status of elderly people at risk for dementia.
The traditional approach, which primarily relies on self-reported dietary surveys, asks people to remember what they have eaten. Such surveys don’t consider two common problems in elderly populations – the effect that memory impairment has on recall of their diet, or digestive issues that could affect the absorption of nutrients.
